Review: Little Bee

Little Bee

Little Bee is a dual narrative theatre piece that follows the escape of two refugee girls for a better life.
Presented by the Baalbeck Performing Arts, the production is based on the book The other handand is directed by Ursula Foster.
Little Bee, the main protagonist, wishes that she was a British pound coin instead of a Nigerian girl because coins travel freely and safely unlike her. Sinead Lewis, who plays the main character, put on a convincing performance with a realistic British accent despite stumbling on her lines a few times.
Her relationship with her sister (‘Kindness’), played by Tabitha de Jager, brings a quirky and light hearted humour to the play through Little Bee’s witty observations of the way her sister would react to certain situations.
The theatre piece benefits from the intimate space of the Chapel, with a two person cast and effective lighting, such as shadows, that add to the story. -Aimee Delagey
