Story: The Importance of Fine Art in Theatre

The Importance of Art in Theatre

Fine art plays a central role in one of the plays at this year’s Krêkvars festival.

“Art can create tranquility  understanding and unity,” says Keith Mparana, creator of the paintings that is used as part of the play F5_Burning MzAN. “I believe it’s the longest enduring form of communication as can be seen in primitive cave paintings.”

Mparana says fine art and theatre are a perfect fit. “Theatre brings movement and sound to artwork and art brings a vibrant atmosphere to theatre.”

For Mparana, painting is a form of stress therapy. “It’s usually a spur of the moment thing. An idea runs through my head and I try to portray it on canvas.”
